Export to Sketchup Fails

I'm trying to export a model to Sketchup.  

It works on it for a few minutes, then fails.  Maybe it is too large?

How do I find out why it is failing an how to fix?

Tried it several times--finally it worked!

Still, it would be nice to see the reason it failed.

this sounds similar to the symptoms in this thread:  unexpected-file-export-behaviour .  We are investigating to see whether something is unreliable in our cloud translators.

In my case the result is a 6 kb *.skp file which is empty.

It worked perfectly last time I did similar export; 1-2 weeks ago.
