Example Files for Tutorials

It would be really helpful if the example files were made available in the tutorials in self-paced learning.  In the getting started tutorials, the example files are available, and it makes the lessons much more helpful and meaningful.  PLEASE MAKE THE EXAMPLE FILES AVAILABLE FOR ALL THE TUTORIALS since the tutorials build on the example files.

Thanks.

The files should be available. Can you tell me what tutorial or lesson has no file? I'm happy to find out what's going on because you should have access to them already.

Phil,
If you look under help -> Learning and Documentation -> Self-Paced Learning, and go through the lessons for each category, you should see that many, if not most of them don't have the data files available.  Getting Started with Fusion 360 has data files.  Mechanical Assemblies Fundamentals has data files.  Sketching and Parameters, for example does not have data files.  Short of going through every tutorial and every lesson and making a list, I think you'll see that in general, the data files are not available.  Providing links to all the files would also be a solution if it's too overwhelming to add them to all the tutorials.
Thanks for the quick response.

I see what you are finding. The tutorial files can be associated with the lessons in 3 different ways.

1. Some are attached on the web page.

2. Some lessons do not have reference designs. (if you think the lesson needs a design, please tell me which ones)

3. Some are stored in Fusion 360 data panel.

Do you have these projects available in your sample designs?

I have found only one that has no attached design and the path to sample files is incorrect.

I'll ask about this one today. Let me know if you think any others are missing data or have faulty paths to the samples. I'll also ask if they can create a uniform experience rather than sending you different places for each tutorial.

Thanks,

Phil,
Thanks for the information.  My only request really is that any tutorial that involves manipulating or adding to a model should have the file for the model easily accessible either directly in the tutorial as is the case for some of these tutorials or there should be a link to a library containing all the models addressed in the tutorials.  It would be helpful if everything was available in one location so it could all be downloaded in one shot.  My best (well and only at this point) example is with:
Mechanical Assemblies / Sketching and Parameters / Lesson 1: Sketch Basics
There is a model in that tutorial that is added to, illustrating sketching, but the model is not available in the tutorial or in the data panel as far as I can tell.
Also, I was reminded yesterday when going back over the Getting Started tutorials that the video addresses things like the patch environment that are not in the toolbar as shown in the video.  For example, in the new version of Fusion 360 patch is found under surface in the toolbar.  Maybe a video update is in order.
Thanks again for your helpAl Murphy

Thanks.

Yes, I agree. We should present the tutorial designs in a consistent manner, wherever they are. As I showed above, you might have to look around. I believe that, with one exception, all the tutorial files are readily available.

For your example, I showed how the path to tutorial files is sometimes the way to find the tutorial file.

Start with the path if one is shownStart with the path if one is shown

Find the correct projectFind the correct project

Open the lesson from samples locationOpen the lesson from samples location

Regarding the change in UI that Fusion got last year. We are aware of the old content and working to replace it. Keep in mind those old videos represent hundreds of hours of work over several years of development. It will take hundreds of hours to replace them, hopefully not several years.

Thanks and good luck. Let me know if I missed anything.

Thanks for the info, Phil. The "you might have to look around" can be problematic.  AFAIK, searching doesn't search titles in Samples, Workshops & Events etc.

I would suggest that there be a Sample section for "Getting Started", etc..

By look around, I mean look at the screen when the tutorial is on screen. That is where tutorial designs are either represented by download links, or instructions are given about where to find them in your Fusion data panel.

Yes, samples are not searchable by name.

What tutorials have you had trouble finding the files for? I'm glad to help make this easier, but without specifics it's hard to tell what you're having trouble finding.

In general, as shown above in the images, start with looking for the download link or instructions in the tutorial page. If Fusion 360 is open, it is also possible browse in "Basic Training" to find designs based on the folders that represent lessons, e.g. "06 Assemblies". All the assembly tutorial files are in that folder.

Please let me know what I can help with.
