Emboss Feature creates strange geometry

Hi,

I am trying to emboss simple profile shapes created with the control point spline tool. Some shapes are fine but others produce weird faces and geometry on the embossed body. I would love to know how to avoid this or fix it. I cant replicate the effect reliably so I don't know where I am going wrong.

I have added 3 pics. One is the sketch used, the second you can see that the emboss looks fuzzy around the edge. The third I have used the offset face command to pull the emboss forward to show how messy it is.

It happens a lot!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks,

Dave

for me, your only problem is that you are not Embossing deep enough.  Model with a deeper Emboss is attached.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. The object I am making is to be 3D printed. It will have an LED light placed inside which shines through. The emboss depths are important for the intensity of the light and cannot be not be any deeper. The depth I need is 2.2mm leaving 0.8mm wall thickness. Is this something that cannot be done with the emboss feature at the moment?

Many Thanks,

Dave.

The Emboss issue is being caused by a very bad Spline Curvature.  I have use the Mesh Section Sketch to remove this problem and then completed the Emboss.  I only did the heart shape, you can repeat the process for the other sketch.  Your model is attached.  If you need help interpreting what I did please let me know DIRECTLY.

Did my last model solve your issue?  If so, please select the "Accept Solution" icon to do three things. First it allows others to find a solution to a similar question, two, it closes the Forum post and last, it acknowledges that you accept the solution given. If you need further help, please ask. If you like to read why "Accept Solutions are important, take a look at this webpage.
