Education License and Open-Source Clarification

Greetings,

I have some questions regarding the Fusion 360 Education License and its compatibility with Open-Source projects. The terms are not very clear on this as they separate teaching and professional work, but in this case teaching is the profession. The simple question is this: can a teacher use the Fusion 360 Education version and contribute to public open-source projects that benefit them as teachers? This might be as direct as creating a 3D printable robot to teach with or as indirect as assisting a project that seems to create more affordable tools that then would be beneficial for the classroom. Obviously these are not just for education, but still provide significant support and assistance to teachers, so they cannot be easily separated. Are these covered or would a teacher need to seek either a different software or a paid plan to contribute to these community efforts?

I think it's safe to say that the case you're describing here falls under the uses covered by the educational license. It looks as though you're creating educational content that will be open source and intended for educational use. Another person's use of said material is not your responsibility.

Glad to hear that. With the maker/hobby license being limited recently I wanted to make sure education still had the ability to operate as it seemed like it was encouraged to before. Thanks for the assurance!

I'm currently also trying to understand if Fusion 360 under the free and/or educational license is compatible with open source licenses that don't restrict usage in anyway (GPL, BSD, CC-BY-SA without NC...), and I'm still not quite sure.

So to ask directly: Commercial use of designs made under the personal and/or education license agreement of Fusion 360 is allowed, as long as it's not the original creator/person that's doing so? I assume commercial usage by the designer/Fusion-licensee would be disallowed either way, even if the design is under an open-source license?

Is there a difference between the two licenses in this regard?

Or do designs made under either license need to always be released under a non-commercial license?
