Editing text causing crash

Editing text causing crash

I am working on some text within F360 today and I'm getting multiple crashes when double clicking text to edit. I've had this happen 4 times in the past 3 days. The crash report immediately disappears so I am unable to report what is happening during the crash.

Also within the text editing window I've noticed that character spacing has disappeared. Is these something new about text editing that I am missing?

I am updated to the most recent version of F360.

Is anyone else seeing this crash?

I'm also seeing font sizing being off. If I create new text with a font size of 20 and compare it to some text that was there previously that should be the same font  and font size, it is not the same.

I'm also seeing some misalignment of fonts. Take a look at the 4 in the date below. the 2022 date was the original. I edited this to change only the 2 to a 4. The 4 is angled. I changed nothing else.editededitedoriginaloriginal

Thanks for posting this. I'd like to look into the crashes you report, and also the sketch issues. Can you please attach a design that can repeatedly crash on demand using the workflow you describe? Also the sketch in the images would be helpful.

unfortunately the crash report immediately disappears upon crash. After I finish working on this file I will see if I can MAKE it crash, I'm not sure I can. But each time I was editing text, using double click to open the text to edit when it crashed. I'll try to post the file after I have a safe place to be done working and save it as a different file so I don't mistakenly screw something up....

Thank you for looking in to this.

I am not able to get the crash to happen on demand. I tried a bunch of time just now. But I have attached the file to the reply. I'm hoping you can re-create or possibly find the font issue. I can deal with the crashing, I just save after every edit now after losing a bunch of work.

Thank you

Thanks for providing the file. Unfortunately I don't have that font on my system and Fusion converts it all to Arial font.

What is the font used?

Also, you might want to delete that file now that I have a copy of it for our developers.

If you crash again, please send the crash report and let me know the report number. I can also look up any reports you've sent with your email address.

The font is named Apple Chancery, it is shown in some of the screen shots also in the text editing window. I’m working in a Mac, that is maybe why you don’t have that font.

Double clicking text continues to edit it continues to cause a crash. I will try to get a recording of the issue.

I downloaded the font and installed it on a Windows 10 Pro workstation.  I have used and edited it in Fusion without issues.

I do not think this is related to the font being used. It happened several times with me today using an Arial font. I also is inconsistent and I have not been able to capture it while recording. I will keep trying and the next time it happens I will try to recreate it.

Sounds like a timing issue. If it always happens when double clicking the text to edit it, try using the right click menu for a while.

If it crashes when using this menu to edit the text, then it's a font/edit problem. If it only crashes when double clicking to edit text, then it's a mouse/UI/input/timing problem.

The way I would test this would be to click rapidly, as fast as possible, instead of double clicking. The extra clicks might be interpreted incorrectly leading to the crash.

that sounds close to what is happening. It does not crash when using right click/edit text. It only crashes when double clicking to edit text.

I does not explain when the font size and alignment were off in my first screen shots. Any idea on that part of the issue?

I confirm this issue is also reproducible for me with the latest version of the personal license, updated the app today. Double click often crashes the text edit tool. Also I feel Fusion more sluggish from last couple of months. Move tool loads very slow when target is complex body. A body made of text, a 3D text connected to a line below, for example, takes over a minute sometimes to load. Then when it loads, the move is smooth. After updating today I experienced several freezes of the app which just made it hang and never respond. I had to close it and lost my work couple of times.
The QA and Dev teams should focus on polishing over the performance, it's a great app but I was more happier when it wasn't having so many features but was working much much faster.

Edit: I'm noticing same slowdown for the combine tool. I suppose the reason may be because of some specific fonts which generate way too much paths when exploded. For example the font Ariston (https://fontsisland.com/download?id=6207). I will attach image of the edges, they look very edgy and lack clean curves on many places.

Phil, I hope you don't mind me hi-jacking this thread. I am having the same problem with double clicking on text. It only crashes autocad the first time i double click on some Mtext. I have sent several error reports with no response. I've uploaded the minidump zip file here for you to view. There are other *.pb files which this forum does not support so have zipped them. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I missed this post, glad I caught up to it.

Are you referring to AutoCAD? I ask because Fusion doesn't have Mtext and this is a Fusion forum page. I'm happy to look into the crash reports you sent if you can provide one or PM me with your email address.
