Edit in Place July 2022 extended feature set - references dissapearing issue

I was really happy to see the fuller Edit in Place feature set implemented in this update (unforutunately only when editing the deign directly and not available from the context of the assembly which is a shame but im sure this will be done at some point).

The reason I was looking forward to this is becuase it should allow a more efficient workflow to design a spaceframe UTV vehicle I am working on by avoiding a cumbersome top down design timeline for a complete vehicle by seperating out the detailed deisgn history to seperate part files but still allowing some in context design where other in the parts in the assembly need to be referenced.

But - when trying out this new workflow I have found a big issue where in-context references are lost once an edit in place file has been edited directly (in order to make use of the extended functionality that the July update provided) and saved - and updated in the assembly - and references synced...

here is the assembly test file:

The assembly consists of an external Frame design which has the construction sketches and tube bodies.

The second external design is going to be the internal welded panels which are going to be welded in between the tube bodies.

The work flow:

  • Activate edit in place on welded panels design
  • Select "reference objects" and select the sketches and tube bodies from the "ETV Frame" design, which make the floor of the vehicle
  • Finish EIP and then save the top level assembly
  • Right click the welded panels design and select "Open"
  • In welded panels design tab - activate assembly context
  • use referenced sketches to create lofted surface (which will become the floor panels)
  • then use reference tube body faces to cut parts of the lofter surface away to create the internal surfaces
  • finish editing context then save and close the tab
  • go back to top level assembly and update the child component (welded panels design just directly edited)spercival985UD_1-1658131042484.png
  • Synchronise the assembly context feature in the top level assembly timeline
  • Save the assembly

And here it the big issue - the previously selected construction sketches and tube body references have dissapeared from the assembly context in the welded panels design - which means all of the downstream features used (from the new extended set of features) fall over as the references have dissapeared:

Ive also noticed that I renamed the file called "External1" in the data panel to "Welded Frame Panels" - the external file name in the assembly browser did change but then reverted back to "External1" and now there is a missmatch between the name the file in the data panel and the assembly - even though I can see the version updating in the data panel.

If you need any more information please dont hesitiate to ask

Look forward to your response and hopefully a quick resolution.

Thanks v much!

Hi @spercival985UD

Can you try sharing the design again? It looks like it may not have been linked/attached.

Cheers,
Karina

I found the support case you have open - I'm working with the team internally. I can reproduce the behavior so we'll need to log this with the team.

Cheers,

Karina
