DRAWINGS output as PDF on MAC are printing with BLACK BLOBS on shaded views! Enough Already!

This is still happening.

Using MAC OSX 10.14.6 ( because big sur sucks).

When Printing a PDF Drawing from MAC Preview I get BLACK BACKGROUNDS for all the SHADED Views on my drawings

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Even if i dig out my old PDF Drawings saved 2 years ago, they still print with big balck blobs!

This issue is currently KNOWN by Autodesk, and it annoys me that Autodesk are release a bucket load of new fancy and complex features ( which is great) but seem to have NO TIME or CARE about fixing old and stupid and I believe somewhat simple BUGS.

PLease let me know when YOU WILL BE FIXING THIS ISSUE?

Thanks

Dave M

I installed adobe reader, ( which was a nightmare!) and tried printing my drawing with this app instead of apples preview app.

I am getting the same results!

PDF drawings I created just recently and many years ago from fusion 360 ALL printed with black blobs around shaded sections/models.

PLease fix this bug, I have know idea when my manufacturers or my clients go to print these drawings that they will see black blobs, very unprofessional,

started happening THIS YEAR, no problems before that.

Must be fixed ASAP!

very unprofessinal!

URGENT FIX REQUIRED!

By the way ADOBE READER /PDF app is an absolute pig-swill of a program!

Hello @ImDaveM

Can you please send us the sample pdf as well as some sample f3z files (which contains drawings that produce bad pdf's)? It will help us understand and debug the issue better.

FYI

Hi @ImDaveM

@rohit.bapat sent me your PDF's and files to have a look at. I did a bunch of experiments and managed to replicate the black rectangular backgrounds on the shaded views. The good news, is that it's a relatively easy fix.

I also did some research into this, and found that it is a known mac issue (not related to Fusion). A lot of teachers have reported issues with printing school work from PDF's with images on mac.

My findings were interesting, I used your PDF's for all of my tests.

  • Printing your PDF on a Windows PC (Acrobat & Firefox) - no issues
  • Printing your PDF on a mac from "Preview" - black rectangles.
  • Printing your PDF on a mac from Firefox - no issues (I use Firefox for my PDF viewer on Mac).
  • Printing your PDF on a mac from Adobe Acrobat - no issues (with the correct settings). The trick it to change the settings to "Print As Image".

Here are some of my experiments:

I hope that this helps

Hi, Clint,

Ok, I just tried printing with FIREFOX and you are correct, it prints fine,

I also tested this using Safari and chrome, but both of these printed the blobs!

Strangely, the "OPEN WITH" popup does not show firefox as an option, but its does show chrome and safari!

So I have to navigate a bit to open with firefox.

I don't want to open all my PDF's with firefox,  ( or do I?)

I could set Firefox as a default view for PDF in the always open with settings?

But at least now I can print without blobs i guess,

Do you know if this problem exists in BIG SUR or later?

Thanks for your help!

Hi @ImDaveM

My Mac runs Big Sur. Unfortunately, the black boxes are still there.

OK, if its Apples fault, then could AUTODESK have a chat with APPLE? Autodesk is a big company!

I have put many request through to apple, they IGNORE ALL OF THEM!

Hi @ImDaveM

I've logged a support ticket with Apple. I'll let you know if there is a resolution.

Hi @ImDaveM

It looks like it might take a while to get an answer. I have gone from text chat to an escalation with an agent on the phone. The agent is currently investigating the issue and has a call scheduled with me for Wednesday to go over their findings. If there is no resolution on Wednesday, I am hoping that this can be escalated again.

I'll keep you updates as this progresses.

Hi @ImDaveM

I've just got off of a call with Apple support. The agent I spoke to said that they have several tickets logged against PDF behaviour in Safari and Preview (related to print issues). There was no exact fix promised, but I was told that there's a chance that this could be resolved in the upcoming Monterey os update.

Let's hope that Apple build a fix for it.

Ok, Thanks for the update.

I am still using Mojave, So I guess i wont see the change when it happens for Monterey.

But thanks for escalating this.!
