Disappearing geometry profile for geometries created with fit point spline

Anonymous

Hi there!

I'm trying to trace a boat blueprint using the spline tool. Once I move the traced geometry on the z-axis (depth), the profile disappears. I've tried creating a random triangle using the line tool and everything is fine. When the geometry is moved on the z-axis, the profile remains selectable. Doing the same with the spline geometry makes the profile disappear.

What am I doing wrong?

I would stay away from 3D sketches.

Create separate construction planes and work with 2D sketches.

Hi @TrippyLighting, thanks for the fast response. I'm still curious as to why this happens with splines but not lines. The behaviour seems flaky/non-deterministic. I can get the profile to show up by slightly moving one of the anchors and have it disappear by just toggling the "Show profile" checkbox. Would you say that this is a Fusion issue or me using it the wrong way?

Profiles are only calculated if all line and spline end points are coplanar.

If you use a fit point spline the tangent handles also have to be coplanar to that same plane.

I guess you ever so slightly moved one of the tangent handles  in the wrong direction.

You can get all the sketch elements back flat onto the original construction or origin plane.

Window select the sketch elements, right-click and select "move to sketch plane.

Then the missing profile will re-appear.
