Disabled design history but still can't access mesh workspace

Hi, I have an stl mesh I've downloaded off the internet and I'm trying to reduce the number of faces before I convert it to BRep. I've enabled the mesh workspace in preferences and disabled design history/timeline, but I still can't access the mesh workspace. I have tried restarting Fusion but no luck.

When you turn off capture design history, you do not see the mesh tab at the top of your screen?
