After importing a scan i went to do a little bit of cleaning up and noticed the button for direct mesh edit has completely gone, is this due to an update or is it a unique issue just for me?

It still should be there as far as I know.  Right click on the mesh in the browser, or in the Edit dropdown on the Mesh tab:

I don't think that this is tied to an extension of any kind.

Try resetting your customization (right click in the tool bar, and do both of these):

Also you can see if it is available by typing "S" on the keyboard to bring up the Shortcut Menu and then typing in "Direct Edit" to see if you can find it that way.

@kalenPKLZ9

If you start a new blank file - is it there?

Just as a "sanity check" Can you File>Export your *.f3d file that exhibits this behavior to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Edit:  Do you have Capture Design History turned on?

ah, @kalenPKLZ9 , I suspect that @TheCADWhisperer has the answer.  Direct Edit does not make sense in a Direct Modeling design, because all editing is direct.  Direct Edit in a history-based/parametric design effectively allows you to make some Direct Modeling edits to a mesh that are not captured.  But, that is not needed in a Direct Modeling design.

Now I feel bad for not seeing that earlier...

I have the same issue, I can't direct edit (mesh) a filed that was imported. I wonder if that's the issue.
