Dimension Text Not Showing

Dimension text is not showing. Using MacOS 10.15.6 Catalina. I tried copying and pasting the font into my font library as described in the below link to no avail. What is wrong? Do I need to re-install? Please see attached screen-shot.

I noticed there are two "Fonts" folders - one under "System" and one under my own home folder. The system folder has all the fonts, but the one in my home folder is empty. I tried copying and pasting "Arial.ttc" into the empty folder and it did nothing. Restarting does not help.

Thank you,

Boston Watts

@Boston.watts  as @g-andresen  suggests - don't simply copy fonts into a folder, wherever you downloaded the fonts to (Arial typeface) double click on the files or right click and open from the right click menu. The fonts will open in Font Book the default app for mac and then you can INSTALL the font - that will make sure the fonts are not only in the correct folder in your system, but also that they are ACTIVATED ! which I believe is the problem here - copy pasting might not set the font to be activated by default.

just in case I am adding the ARIAL font from my computer

P.s

to save system memory when loading design software, users can selectively activate and deactivate fonts. When you have thousands of fonts installed on a computer it might slow down certain design software. There for that option exists. So if you have a font installed but it is deactivated a software that uses fonts will not load deactivated typefaces 🙂

This did not work. See the attached screenshot showing the two libraries I am referring to.

I downloaded your zip file and double clicked on each .ttf file. The bottom window shows the fonts installed. However the top window is the System Font folder and as you can see, it only has "ArialHB.ttc". When I try to add fonts to the system Font folder I am denied permission even though I am the only Admin.

Do I need to restart after installing fonts for them to be recognized in Fusion 360 or should it load right away?

can you find the fonts in font book? And did you try the most annoying solution offer ever - Restart computer and fusion (don't kill me) ha! ?

I believe I fixed it. This was incredibly frustrating.

There are three places fonts can go:

  • username > Library > Fonts
  • Macintosh HD > Library > Fonts
  • Macintosh HD > System > Library > Fonts

I was able to get the dimension text to show by:

  • Copying and pasting, "Arial.ttf" into the first two bulleted files above ("Arial.ttf" is already in the third and you can't edit that folder - even as an Admin)
  • Restarting my computer. The change does not take effect until the computer has been restarted.

Also note that you must have the correct font selected in Fusion 360 preferences. See the below screenshot.

What operating system are you running? Wondering if I had this problem because I'm running the latest MacOS as of today, September 7th, 2020.

This is ridiculous, it is 2023 and the issue still exists, why on Earth does the rest of the application displays properly but not the dimensions? And most importantly why do we have to battle to get it done?
