Derived file with lots of CAM data not opening.....

Hi all,

Experiencing some unwanted behaviour.

I have a fairly large file, actually it's a derived file with lots of CAM data inside. It's also a file I use across two workstations.

Normally it takes around 5-10 minutes to open, first few minutes downloading, then the rest updating and interpreting the CAM data etc.

Since yesterday, The file is stuck on what I think is Upgrading CAM data as per screenshot. Been going for over 60 mins now. There would be around 200 toolpaths, half of which fairly complex.

Is it something like local CAM data being upgraded as I switch between workstations?

Thoughts anyone?

David

@HarrisonClassic Hard to say what is happening without looking into this further. Would it be possible to share this data to see what could be happening?

Thanks mate, and @jeff_strater

Well - this morning the file opened.......

Everything is intact apart from a couple of toolpaths that seem to have gone missing but I can live with that.

Just one of those things, I guess.

@HarrisonClassic Glad that you are back to productivity but would certainly recommend not to have all your tool paths etc ALL IN ONE file. Over 200 of them is a lot and certainly the will only grow. If there are opportunities to split these that would help even in load times etc. just a suggestion.

Actually, the problem still seems to exist, still waiting over 120 minutes for it to load on a different workstation...

Yes, it would be nice if I could split to multiple derived, actually there is already 3 off the master design document. More just fragments the content and it's easy to lose track of what parts form the master design are in which derive.

Also, it's bad enough that when I open up the master and make changes, all of these derived files need to be updated also which takes time.

There are lots of toolpaths, but generally they are fairly simple in nature, mainly drilling, 2D contours and come 3D contours in the main.

Trust me when I say I'd love an easier way to keep track of things with lots of derives. I also have a couple of hundred NC Progams, which means every time I create one I have to scroll up pages to minimize the section in the browser to be able to see other items in the browser - all because Autodesk thinks it's not important enough to add "folder" capability to the NC Programs list - can't understand why this is hard or ignored.

Some of the performance issues seem to come form toolpaths for no reason become invalid. This seems to happen in 2D contours where I've created a projected sketch as the machining contour, sometimes when I reopen the file it becomes invalid - probably because the model has changed. It would be nice if toolpaths remained valid if the parts in question aren't modified.

Probably the biggest bug bear I have with Fusion, and trust me I'm a fan, is that you work and stumble into performance limits that essentially cause you to start doing things again. I think I'm pretty good with strategies of using the tool, but in this post I simply can't open a file!

@HarrisonClassic Thank you for sharing your design. I have just downloaded it and will have our engineering team look at it as well.

@HarrisonClassic I was able to open the design in about less than 5 mins on my Mac machine.

Are you seeing it slow when you say make changes on one machine, save and close. When you get to the next machine on open it is very slow?

Currently are you blocked from opening this design? If that is the case, what we could do is to see if we can save the file in the design workspace so that what ever is blocking this does not happen on open? You can invite my email ID into your project and I could open it from my side and switch to design workspace and then save it?

We still need to understand why it is taking more than two hours on your end but trying to see if there is opportunities to quickly open the file from your end if it is in the design workspace.
