Derive bug

I derive a component into a new design, tick the box Place objects at origin and the objects are not placed at the origin in the new design. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?

Just testing and it seems like it only moves component origins to the origin also it doesn't seem to affect sub component.

In this example if I export the Side Core Assembly nothing moves because it's origin is already at the at origin. But if I Derive just one of the side cores its origin is moved to the origin.

Hi @wmhazzard,

Not a bug, Its as-designed

So, what happens when we check\uncheck "Place Objects at Origin" while deriving a component? what is the difference?

  • When upstream moves the target occurrence, it will do/don't change the position of the derived geometry.
  • The "Place at origin" option is meant to align a Component Origin with the Global Origin in the Target

I can give a simple example

  • Lets create a document with a local "Component1" with a small cube, Save it as 'A'
  • Derive "Component1" to a new document
  • While derive, we will have 2 options
    1. Case 1 : Check "Place at origin" option
    2. Case 2 : Uncheck "Place at origin" option
  1. Case 1 :Check "Place at origin" option, Save the document as "B_Case1"
    • Move the component1 in 'A', capture position, Save
    • Switch to 'B' document, Get latest Updates
    • Nothing happens
  2. Case 2 : Uncheck "Place at origin" option, Save the document as "B_Case2"
    • Move the component1 in 'A', capture position, Save
    • Switch to 'B' document, Get latest Updates
    • Derived "component1" will move.
