Data panel opens to random location each time

Hello,

Why is it that each time I run Fusion 360, the data panel opens in a random folder  (and this has been my experience since I started using Fusion 360 2 years ago, accross 3 different work and personal accounts) ?

Today when I started Fusion it opened to a folder I haven't used or opened in nearly two years, it doesn't make any sense.

How is that even a difficulty to either open to the home folder, or, as would be expected, to the last folder opened ?

Best regards,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas, currently there is no option to set the default folder. But, have you tried pinning your desired Project(s) and selecting the 'pinned' from the drop-down? (see the image in this Product doc)

Thank you for your reply but you are missing the point.

The issue is that it starts at RANDOM locations each time I start Fusion.

Best regards.

Sorry for the late reply Nicolas, can you try this?

clear the cache > relaunch Fusion 360 > make a change to something in a ProjectA > save > close Fusion360> relaunch > see what folder it is defaulting to?  Ideally, it should default to ProjectA (the last saved Project).

Hello, thank you for your message.

I removed the cache (all the files in the indicated folder), then ran Fusion, it opened to a project I never use anymore, let's call it X.

Then I went in another project, let's call it A, where I made a modification and saved it. This A project is also pinned, if that makes any difference.

Next, I closed Fusion and opened it again.

It opened to  project X again.

In the span of time since my first message, it has opened to project X most of the times, and sometimes to other projects, without rhyme or reason.

Best regards,

Nicolas

Strange! clearing cache should have worked.

So, here is how Fusion works when it can't find the default (last saved in Project) in the local cache (due to whatever reason).
- if you are using a Personal hub (single storage hub): default to the first-ever Project created in the hub

- if you are using Team hub: just list all Projects

and once you clear the cache completely and relaunch Fusion360 afresh, the cache should get built correctly and work fine from the second launch onwards. It seems you'll need to open a support ticket so that someone from support can take remote access to help you.

Thank you,

I'm using a personal hub right now, and my project "X" could indeed very well be the very first project I created.

I'll try to record in more details the behaviour and open a ticket.

Best,

Nicolas

hi Nicolas, it may not still work (apologies in advance if it doesn't work), but can you pls try this one again?
- clear the complete cache
- launch fusion360 > go to desired Project (let's say Project R)
- pick any file, make changes and Save
- Again make changes to the same file and save
- wait for at least 1 full minute and then close fusion 360 (reason - cache takes some time to update correctly)
- launch fusion360 again and check

Hi,

I finally got back to that problem.

With the latest version installed, I did the steps you suggested and it seems that the project it opens when I start is the root folder of the project I last edited a file in, which is both the expected outcome and a big improvement to my situation. Thanks !

Now if it opened the exact folder (not the root folder) I was in last, that would be another step I would appreciate 🙂

Best,

Nicolas

This sounds very like another couple threads on this support forum (and a bug I had filed last month), where it would keep opening in the first project. This is the first time anyone from Autodesk has given something to try on these few threads. However, I looked for that cache folder, and it is already completely empty, so I dont think that is the problem  I and some others are seeing - its been getting a lot worse lately, now on my machine at least it rarely opens back up in the folder with the most recent save. It used to be maybe a 50-50 chance, now its 1 in 10 that it goes back to the most recently saved folder. PLEASE - someone look into this - there are a lot of people reporting this!

hi crueby1, is the above solution not working for you? It has worked for many other users. Please make sure that you are following exact same steps.

Well, first time I tried it it did not work. Just tried one more time with the difference that I did not close the file after saving and before closing Fusion (yes, did wait more than a minute). This time it seemed to work. Is that a key difference, or just dumb luck?

Got the 'fix' to work a couple times yesterday, today it is back to broken again, opened at the top of the project tree again. This needs a real look by someone to find out why its happening!

The last used Project should be the default Project when you open Fusion360. There was some intermittent issuees, but now a permanent fix is available on desktop app version V.2.0.10940 onwards. Please try it out and let me know if the issue still persists.
