Create Box Bug

In the last couple releases I have seen cases when I try and create a box on an existing face, and it wont work, the dialog box and display are all messed up. Finally hit a model where it repeats consistantly. Here is what it should do, when I do a Box create command, and picked the end of the cylinder to place it on - clicked on the face, then the start/end points of the rectangle, and it comes up looking like this, which is all normal:

Create box on face, worked normallyCreate box on face, worked normally

But, if I try and create a box on the larger face behind it, it does not work properly. Clicked on the face, then drew the start/end points of the rectangle, but after setting the end point it instead looks like this:

Create box, failed to workCreate box, failed to work

Note that the display of the box is incomplete, and the dialog box that pops up is missing most of its entries. Clicking again on the face where the box is supposed to be then makes it even worse, like this:

After clicking on face againAfter clicking on face again

This behavior is very odd, just started in the last couple of weeks. I have gone through settings for the graphics, changing things one by one, no change. I am on windows 10, latest drivers all round, 32 gig memory.

hmm...  having a hard time reproducing this.  Perhaps my sequence is slightly different than yours:

That is the sequence, Just tested again doing exactly what you did, opened same project, did same order as you, same menus, but here it does not work. Some other setting that I have in the options different from yours maybe?? Even uploaded the project file that I posted as a new entry and opened that, same problem.

Any suggestions of options to try changing? Or system info you would like me to upload?

FOUND IT! The trigger anyway.

I went through the preferences for graphics options, none made a difference. Then went through the ones in the General/Design set, and one matters: If I turn on the Auto Project Edges On Reference option, then it fails like I described. If I uncheck that box, problem goes away.

Can you try that option and see if it then happens for you? I closed and reopened the project, also tried restarting the application, with that box unchecked, cant reproduce it here anymore. That seems to be what causes this behavior.

that's it!  Nice detective work, @crueby1 .  Never would have guessed that in 100 years.  In fact, I didn't believe it when I read it, but you are correct.  Will definitely log that one...

Thanks Jeff - guess that 30+ years as a firmware engineer was good for something! Regression testing and methodical checks find a lot. Glad there was a workaround for this one, now you just need to find out how that option is breaking it under the hood - at least it gives you an easy way to reproduce it.  👍

the Fusion bug is:  FUS-66444.  Will be very interested to see the root cause of that one...

This bug seems to have returned with the latest couple of versions. Same exact work around of unchecking "Auto Project Edges on reference" solves the problem. Glad to have found this post because this bug was driving me nuts for a week.
