Crashing or hanging on mesh conversion

I am running a brand new Core i9 vPro laptop with an RTX A2000, 1TB nvme SSD, and 32GB of RAM. The program constantly hangs and becomes unresponsive when dealing with meshes. It doesn't even use more than 15% of resources, which I find strange. It will crash nearly anytime when trying to convert a mesh with over 10,000 triangles, but it seems like it should just take longer or use more resources at once. I have been remeshing, reducing the number of triangles, and then it is able to successfully convert the mesh assuming I use faceted.

One of the issues is that when it remeshes, it seems to pick an un-optimal layout for all of the polygons, so it draws more than seem necessary.

Please attach your STL file and let the Forum users take a look.

"It doesn't even use more than 15% of resources, which I find strange"

This is because many of the algorithms involved are inherently single-threaded, so you are only using one core of your presumably multi-core computer.

"It will crash nearly anytime when trying to convert a mesh with over 10,000 triangles"  Does Fusion actually crash (do you get a crash dialog), or does it just take a very long time.  What method of conversion are you using?  If you are using the "faceted" conversion?

This is highly not recommended for models that have that many facets.  The results will be very difficult to work with, both from a performance and reliability points of view.  What are you trying to do with these meshes?  There may be other workflows that will be more productive for you, if we understand your goals.

That depends on which conversion method I am using.

When I use the Faceted conversion it takes a long time and will complete only if my workflow is:

remesh> reduce > convert

I am trying to take STLs and make them parametric for editing. So we can combine STLs into one model or remove features ect.

Please share one of those .stl files so we can make an assessment if this even makes sense.

If it's too large, please compress (.zip) it and attach it to the next post.
