Copy/Paste Storyboard in Animation Space crashes Fusion 360 every time

Anonymous
Not applicable

When trying to copy paste a new storyboard in the animation work space Fusion 360 crashes every time with different accounts and machines (windows 8 and 10). I've prepared a file from the original design, this was a animation of more the 100 components for a duration of 12 minutes and 37 sec. There is nothing left from the original model except for one component that also has a new body created inside, also not related with the original design. if I delete that component the command work (but than it's just like a new file from scratch).

I have 2 questions, if the problem is found can the file be fixed, and if yes could this fix also work on the original file

I spent some time looking for a workaround with your file and found none.

The crash is data specific, and not yet been analyzed. I can see in the call stack it crashes right after paste, while trying to paste a trail line that probably doesn't exist any more. Your model has no trail lines.

One thing you could try is turning off all trail lines before copy and paste, but I think that's a long shot. The missing trail line may already be deleted.

Another thing you could try is opening an older version (just as a test, don't promote it to top version). See if some earlier version doesn't have the problem, but also contains enough of your work to be worthwhile as a recovery file in this design. You'll end up redoing some work, but maybe that's easier.

If you recall deleting items that may have had trail lines, perhaps that may unlock the mystery.

Sorry I don't have better news. I've asked the team responsible for Animation to take a look, but any fix they could possibly find will not come soon for you.

Thanks,

@BruceMui Thanks for posting.

So far you have only sent in one crash report, and it has no signs of copy/paste storyboard workflows. The one report you sent is for deleting a storyboard. Can you please confirm your workflow?

Also if you are crashing on copy/paste of a storyboard, please send in all crash reports. I rely on automatic reporting methods to know when people are crashing. Every report helps me understand what customers are experiencing.

If you have a design that will crash every time you delete a storyboard, or copy/paste a storyboard, if you can share it I'm happy to try to track down the source of the crash and debug it.
