Converting a STEP file to a sheet metal file

I received a sheet metal model that was done in another CAD modeling program and saved as a STEP file.  I need help to import the file into Fusion 360 and turning it into a recognizable "sheet metal" file so that I can create a flat pattern from it.  I'm trying to do this because I need to send flat pattern DXF files to a sheet metal shop and I need help getting over this initial hump.  Thanks

Hi @ematayoshi

Welcome to the Fusion 360 online community! Thanks for posting.

While Fusion 360 cannot currently convert STEP files into sheet metal components or work with sheet metal files from other CAD packages, both of these workflows are on the development teams radar as upcoming improvements. You can learn more about what will be coming to the Sheet Metal workspace at this link.

In the meantime, you may be able to use the ExactFlat add-in to get flat patterns for you imported STEP parts.

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.
