Converting a complex, hollow, 3d scan mesh into a solid (not hollow) body.

I purchased this 3d model online to do wind tunnel and CFD testing on a scale model of the car. The interior of the car is hollow and has some details like door panels, seats, etc. These details are useless features for what I'm doing and I would like to solidify them. I'd like the exterior of the car to just be one single solid body with a solid interior. I've tried to convert it to a brep body, but the model is far too complex (because of all of the unnecessary interior detail) for the operation to finish.  Is there a way to basically unshell a mesh and only take the outer/exterior face groups?

Thank you!
