Confused about startup license and product design extension

The startup license for fusion 360 is for small startup companies to design or manufacture their own physical products, right?   Yet, the Product Design Extension is not included in that license?  It's only available for flex access (cloud credit purchases or the $595 license)?

For example, I am designing a plastic product.  To add a snap-fit or a boss to that project, it show the little blue plug that redirects to the license purchase page.

The point of the startup license is literally to "design products", but doing "product design" is a separate purchase?

Can someone please explain the logic here?

Hey goodent,

You raise a fair point here. In short, we made the decision before we released the first extension that they wouldn't be included in Startup license grants. The Product Design Extension, like the other extensions, is meant to provide advanced functionality for customers doing specialized work (like injection molded plastics). The decisions around what's included in the extension and what's in core are above my pay grade, but suffice it to say that the tools included in this extension were considered to be advanced as opposed to core functionality.

Extensions allow us to provide Fusion at an affordable price for everyone while offering advanced functionality for those who can afford it.
