Coil distorts when stretched

Coil distorts when stretched

I attached a simple file to explain better.

When stretching a coil, the shape (Circle, triangle or square) seems to distort and not follow the cylinder. Instead of a circular cut following the length of the cylinder it will just make a thin slice. the longer the stretch the worse the distortion is. How do I adjust the orientation of the shape. This feature worked fine a month ago. Is it me or did the update mess up something?

I think you are doing something wrong with the Coil Function.  Take a look at the model with my coil, there is no distortion, smooth halve circle cut all the way up.

Mine will only create the right profile if I select 1 full rotation. I'm trying to create a partial rotation. I Created a single path, offset plane, sketched a circle on the plane and was able to use sweep. Kind of clunky but it seems to work. Still don't see why I need to create a full rotation.

You can use the Coil function for partial rotations also.  Sweep an profile, except for a circle, will probably have issues with distortion depending on your type of sweep. Partial Coil Cut model is attached.

It's my first Screencast... Hopefully it works like I am intending.

Notice the shape as it's stretched.

Try this method, if you have not already done so.  The only reason I used the Move Face commands at the end was because I did not carry my Sweep path beyond the ends of your rod.  I wanted you to see it is a full half circle without distortion.  Model is attached.

Can you show me how you create the path for the sweep. I see the sketches but I am a novice in this area. If not no worries. I'll find a YouTube video and figure it out.

Here is the Screencast you asked for.  Again you do not have to extend and remove each end if you do not care if the sweep is not full size at the ends.  Model I used in the Screencast is attached.

Thank you so much. I am not familiar with the surface tools. I see I have a lot of tools to learn. Thanks again for taking the time.
