Changing default color for extruded objects

Is there a way to make the fault color of a new design dark and opaque like I see in so many training videos?

Post screenshots of what you see in training video and on your machine.

(Shift Win S and Ctrl v in a Reply using Windows.  I am sure there is a similar technique on Mac.)
