canvas switches to later in history, making it useless

Steps to reproduce:

Create a canvas on a face.

Create a sketch, start tracing around the canvas (which is 50 times harder than Corel Draw's Bezier curves btw)

   Save it..

Go back in and edit sketch - canvas is GONE WTF?  OH, lookey here, the history shows that you created the Canvas after the sketch... Totally crazy, but OK, clearly, I didn't, but whatever...   Drag and drop it back to where it belongs... BUZZ! Wrong answer, you can't do that because Fusion 360 doesn't want you to!

Ok, Drag the sketch to the top of the history... BUZZ!!! Wrong Answer, can't do that either...

OK, Delete project and recreate it from scratch again...

Yep!  That is a Fusion 360 compatible solution that I've had to use way too many times...

(OK, a bit of sarcasm there, but this is what it did to me, after spending 30 minutes trying to draw 15 arcs around a stupid image, that I could have done in Corel Draw in 2 minutes or so.. but instead, I have two points around the arcs and you change one and all the others change too... in Corel Draw I can move one end of the curve and it only affects that curve (two end points and it is done, not all the points that come into that, but that is another topic)

Starting over with the project, unless there is a way to

please show this in a screencast.  I was not able to reproduce the canvas moving after the sketch after save.

Hi,

The canvas, like the sketch, has a reference to a plane (e.g. the surface of the body).

This means that both cannot be in front of this reference plane in the timeline.

The sketch is not a projection of the canvas.

Therefore, there is also no link between canvas and sketch, so that they can be moved independently of each other.

I think I figured out how I did it.  I think I created the sketch, then dropped/added the image on to it (thus, it was created after), then drew the sketch based on the image.  However, in the timeline, after saving the image, it put the sketch before the canvas.

I was not able to rearrange them when I tried, perhaps the canvas was using the reference plane of the sketch?  And until that reference plane was created, it couldn't be in front of it?

Clearly, I should have added the canvas while not in edit sketch mode, I think that is where I got it confused.

I'm not sure if I can reproduce creating the issue (if the above doesn't work), but I'm pretty sure I still have the resulting drawing and could at least show that I can't rearrange them.

Hi,

The canvas is not created on the sketch but on a plane. Of course, this can be the same plane that was chosen for the sketch.

Just re-installed Screen cast, and I guess it will be time to toss it in the trash again... NO UI shows up in Windows 10 (Dual 4K Monitors, not sure if that causes an issue), Don't see screencast running in the task list, so I presume it just died on startup... Tried running it again... Nothing... So, is there a better place to download it than here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/simplecontent/content/download-autodesk-screencast...   because that version is worthless. (I think why I uninstalled it in the past)  Do I have to Exit Fusion 360 or something crazy?  (to even get a UI to come up)?

Run As Admin doesn't work either...  nice app....

yes, that is most likely what happened.  A canvas is a separate feature, it is not part of the sketch.  Likely you selected a sketch profile as the "face" to associate with the canvas, which, of course, creates a dependency from the canvas to that sketch, which, in turn, prevents you from being able to reorder it before the sketch.  I'd say this is a bug - inserting a canvas while in sketch mode should probably exit the sketch (like what happens if you Extrude while in sketch mode).  I will log that bug.  The usual workflow is to insert the canvas before the sketch, but I can see where this is misleading.

[edit] the Fusion bug is FUS-102313

Running the 'launch screen cast recorder' after exiting and re-entering Fusion 360 fails too...  Does the junk only support one monitor?  I seem to recall it has some kind of problem like that.... In any event I'd send you the file, but I can't export the file from Fusion 360, can't save locally my files and there is, no way that I know of to do that.  (One of my major gripes about Fusion 360 - I'd pay $1,000 for a copy that I could run locally, that would never 'expire' and that I'd buy updates for if needed (or new features were brought out that made it worth an upgrade) - but I lothe subscription based systems, and worse, subscription based systems where they have all your work, and if they were to shut down, everything you ever did just went Poof!  Been there, done that...)
