cannot select aline to run tangent to an offset ellipse geometry

hello all, I've been having problems within a sketch I'm working on where I have a central ellipse and an offset ellipse outside of it. I have some construction geometry set up around it as I'm using the model to measure for a physical product I'm making. I have a set of lines that are parallel to each other to mock up the material needed to for the part of the component, and I'm trying to set the outside line to be tangent to the curve so I can measure the exact width of the material I need. when I try and select the tangent constraint to create one between the line and the outside offset ellipse, I cannot select the ellipse, and vice versa, when I select the ellipse first, I cannot select the line. I have the selection filters set that I SHOULD be able to select it as far as I'm aware. Is there something I'm missing?

Offset Ellipse - is converted to Spline.

We have no Tangent to Spline function except at endpoints.  There are workarounds.

In Manufacture - stock fitted model is an option.

Might help…

The documentation on offsetting and ellipse, describes two ways to do it.

One will result in another true ellipse, the other will create an equidistant curve, which is a spline.

The true ellipse will accept a tangent relationship.
