Cannot revolve around edge in 3D sketch

There is a bug in Fusion 360 which currently makes it impossible to revolve around an edge in the thirds dimension of a 3D sketch.

Steps:

Create a (3D) sketch on the XY plane.

Create a construction edge in the Z direction.

Create some edge in the XZ plane.

Open the revolve dialog from the Surface tab.

Select the edge as the revolvee and the construction edge as the revolver.

Result:

The edge is revolved around the X axis instead of the Z axis.

PS:

I wanted to attach screenshots, but the dialog keeps throwing errors whenever I upload any png or jpg image.

Just export your f3d file and attach. Don't attach pictures as you can just paste them into the message which is a lot easier to read with inline images. Or use the photo option.

Yes inserting from clipboard doesn't work and the insert photo dialog keeps throwing errors. See attached.

The forum seems pretty broken at the moment! No even sure I can tag someone from support to take a look, @jeff_strater  seems like revolve gets confused if you're working with a 3d sketch.

Pasting from the clipboard seems to work for me at the moment.

Screen Shot 2020-12-16 at 2.05.55 PM.pngyes, @HughesTooling - the forum's email notification is completely broken - we don't get any notification when you tag us.  Until this is fixed, if it is something important/urgent, let me know via slack or email.  I just happened to stumble on this one...

The explanation here is:  Revolve only knows how to revolve about a line in the sketch plane.  The sketch plane for this sketch is the XY plane, and the geometry is all in the XZ plane.  Revolve allows selection of 3D geometry, but it projects it into the sketch plane.  In this case, I'm surprised it works at all, since the projection of that line is a point.  But, that's why it works the way it does.  I'll take a look at why it works this way - I can't offhand think of a reason, so this is maybe something we can fix going forward...

I have the exact same issue. Not able to revolved 3d curves or arround an axis which does not belong to the

sketch. But there are plenty of reason this feature would be used. it shouldn't be an issue for the developpers to correct the issue as the revolve occurs with a projected axis on the support sketch plane. There are some tricks to overcome this situation but it is just a waste of time and is anyway just aproximated solution.
