@gouldenp Thanks for sharing the query.
I understand that "Internal CAM kernel error" pops up when generating a toolpath in Fusion 360 on Windows 7
About the Internal cam kernel - this situation is due to recent modernizations and improvements of the CAM kernel. The Windows 7 system environment is no longer being developed, and cannot cover these changes.
Update the installed operating system of the workstation to a more recent Windows release. Currently, Fusion 360 supports Windows 8.1, 10, and 11. New installs and live updates on Windows 7 and Windows 8 will be blocked by Fusion 360 beginning in late March 2022.
"If for any reason an update to a more recent version of Windows is impossible. Autodesk provides the attached Zip file with a .dll that can prevent the mentioned situation on Windows 7 till the change of the Windows version is possible."
Follow the steps to improve the situation for the time being:
- Download the provided ZIP archive and unzip it to your local hard drive.
- Close Fusion 360 if it is still open
- Open a new explorer window and open %Localappdata%.
- Navigate to "\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\".
- Here are subfolders with release IDs, open the most recent ID folder.
- Inside that folder, navigate down to the Applications/CAM360 subfolder.
- Rename the existing "camkernel.dll" file - for example, to "SAVE_camkernel.dll".
- Copy the "camkernel.dll" file from the unzipped archive and copy it to this /CAM360 folder.
- Start Fusion 360 and generate the toolpath that was failing before.
The provided workaround is not a final solution, it is intended to provide time for finishing active projects and then moving to a more recent and supported Windows operating system.
Also keep in mind that any published Fusion 360 update between 26.01.2022 and late March 2022, will replace the .dll file again. When this happens, replace the DLL again by following the same instructions.
