Cannot Extrude on Mirrored Component

I want to add extruded text onto a component that I mirrored. Once I get the mirrored component, I cannot perform any extrude operations on it. I can do other actions, but not extrude. I think I understand how history works, and I think I rolled back the history correctly, but maybe that's the root of the issue. See this video for details please.

Screencast video

My "screencasts" have not been working properly (not getting out of "pending" mode) so I  had to make do with what I could get to work^^^

I figured out the workaround. In fact the solution presents itself in the video. Notice how the extrude face operation gets flipped around... (I didn't notice this completely while recording).

So If I extrude cut the text, it gets flipped around (despite the preview correctly showing the intended result) so it is cutting thin air. Instead, if I extrude cut and do both sides symmetrical, then it cuts the part. Or if I ignore the preview and instead do a cut in the opposite direction of what I think (positive direction), then it cuts. The same applies to regular extrusions. This certainly doesn't make any sense to a user's perspective, so I'd call it a bug.
