Cannot download Fusion 360

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I am trying to download Fusion 360, but the download never starts.

  1. I have logged in, I select Fusion for personal use.
  2. I am prompted to enter again some details (e.g. Name, email etc).
  3. I am forwarded to a page that has a button "DOWNLOAD NOW", and I click it.
  4. I get to a new page that supposedly the download will start automatically.

On this last step nothing happens.

I click on "If your download does not begin automatically, please try again." which does something refreshing the page, but still the download never starts.

I have tried in different networks, on different machines, different browsers, different OS etc, but it is always the same. The web page just hangs there.

How can I download this software?

Same problem here : can not download on Linux with Chrome (in Guest mode) ... how stupid is that ?!

I wouldn't be surprised if this is by design ? However, why give such a bad experience to (potentially/future paying) customers who just want to download on Linux ... and (unfortunately) later have to install it on Windows (VM) ?

I looks like that this is how things work as soon as you enter the world of Microsoft and licensed Software ... either you use their (privacy invasive) Software or it does not work.

Result : I do not like Autodesk before even trying the software !

Proper solution:

  1. Install the User-Agent Switcher add-on for Firefox (there's probably something similar for Chrome).
  2. Pretend to be using Chrome on Windows.
  3. Watch the Autodesk website dutifully serve you the EXE installer.

If you pretend to be on Mac OS, they hand out the DMG file.

Way to go, Autodesk. 💩

ArchLinux (steamdeck) user here. THIS IS THE SOLUTION. Thank you VERY much! This shouldn't be necessary though, what's the deal Autodesk?

That's the lonk I already tried 30x times, and just again, and it still does NOT work on a Linux system with Chrome.

Downloading with a Windoze system was never the issue ... just downloading with a Linux system was the initial problem (not even talking about running Fusion360 on Linux .. which is another nightmare)

@emekaodigbo1 , bro, the problem was downloading the install file with a Linux system.

On Linux nobody has (and nobody wants) Microsoft Edge browser !!

Yes, pretending to be a browser on a Windoze system may help, but even then you have to do quite some stuff to make it work on Linux.
If these Autodesk guys think that Windows is the only OS in the world and they do not care, then they have just lost one more potential customer.
I have heard great things about OnShape which I am going to use now.
Bye, Bye, Autodesk !

Hello forum.  I'm not a Fusion team person, but I found this document online.  It seems that many of the users on this thread are dealing with Linux, so I though sharing this might help.  Good luck!

Well while in theory yes you cannot run it on Linux why I cannot download it on Linux is another topic/problem. My main workstation is Linux but I have various Windows machines and/or VMs around where I would like to copy it to be installed. Why there is no way to download Windows or Mac version on Linux is beyond me.

Also why no error message or warning. You are on Linux we do not have linux version but here you might want to download Win or Mac versions here.

Currently it gives you download button that just doesn't work when you click it. Giving you no hint as to why it is not working. That is a broken UX. Spent at minimum 30 minutes trying different browsers, disabling ad blockers, restarting until I found this thread. There is simply no feedback you click download but nothing happens

Changing the user agent to the latest Chrome for Windows was the solution for me on Linux Mint 21.3.

The reason why the auto-download feature dose not work, is due to the site trying to find the correct file for you system and if none exists you get nothing. Including no user-feedback from the site (which is why were are here in a form).

The Work Around
Change (Spoof) your Browsers 'User agent' to 'Microsoft Edge (EdgeHTML) - Windows'.
What!; This sends a Technical Data (HTML GET Request Header) to the site to say the you are using 'Windows Edge'

How;

  1. Open Chrome,
  2. Go to website to download Fusion;
    1. https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/appstream
    2. https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal-download
    3. https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/overview
  3. Start Dev Tools (Shift + Ctrl + I) or (Menu > More Tools > Dev Tools )
  4. Sub Menu (Dev Menu) > More Tools > Network Conditions
  5. Elements Tab should now have a new window with 'Network Conditions'
  6. Under the heading 'User agent' > Un-check 'Use Browser default' > Change to 'Microsoft Edge'
  7. Refresh Page (F5)

HOW TO FIX
Autodesk needs to place a link to be able to download and obtain the file, just like about 99% of other websites for this reason. As some people may not be using a Windows or Mac workstation for their primary device.

Precisely. We know exactly which binary we need to download, we just cannot because the code that drives the normal download links are too smart by half.

It took me some time to get really signed in. It didn't work but then at some point it worked and finally the download option on that empty page was available.
