Can you create a new coordinate system?

I want to create a new coordinate system and have another zero-point in order to have my sketch related to one coordinate system and then a body from that sketch sitting in the middle of another coordinate system. I can only find how to do a setup and changing the wcs. Is there any way to do it in the design tab and not the manufacturing tab? I want use the new coordinate system when exporting the model as a step-file.

Hi,

1. sketches should be functionally oriented to bodies/components and not to coordinate systems.
2. show an actual design and describe what you want to end up with.

Please share the file.

File > export > save as f3d on local drive  > attach it to the post.

I agree.
But if I want to have multiple origin points? Say I want to orientate the body differently in Mastercam by preparing with another coordinate system before exporting the file. I know that you can have multiple coordinate systems in other CAD programs and then choose which you want to "use" when exporting. Is there any way to do this in Fusion?

We are having internal discussions about some form of multiple UCS's. Nothing to say further, but it's certainly on our radar.

Take a look at this Blog Article and Video.

OOPS! I touched on the wrong reply.  This is meant for @elin_peterssonJEDF9, sorry.

Yes, I saw this video earlier! Unfortunately it does not seem to help me since I need the reference in the step-file?

That is a good to hear!

This isn't just helpful form a CAM perspective.

Fusion 360 allows for fast creation of top-down assembly models and mostly that results in all components have the same origin.

If you create a component within such a top-down design and want to export it for re-use in other models, you're often stuck with a model where the origin  not in a very useful location. The ability to define an alternative origin for export would be very welcome in  that situation.

Configured design increases the demands on CAD and therefore the implementation of coordinate systems will only be a matter of time.

Thanks
