Can't select a plane

Hello I have a educational license and I'm trying to follow a YouTube tutorial on designing an electric motor. I'm having trouble selecting a plane. It seems like I don't have the function available to me to create design. Is this the case? In the tutorial I'm suppose to create a sketch then the grid that allows to select a plane appears, but only the logo is on screen. Can I only import design?

Personal license allows creation of new designs.  You say "but only the logo is on screen".  That sounds more like Fusion is not completely initialized.  Can you send a screen shot of what you see?  Is it a login screen?
