Can't run; can't uninstall; can't install.

I've had Fusion 360 for almost two years (startup license). Today, it would not load. It hung at the splash screen. I rebooted, but that didn't help. I tried to uninstall, but got a "script error" popup dialog and the uninstall would not proceed.

I then found an Autodesk Fusion 360 uninstall tool and used it. That uninstalled the program. I then downloaded the Fusion 360 installer, but it would not install because, once again, I got a "script error" popup dialog.

I can't complain, I guess, because I have a free license, but I have put in hundreds of hours learning this program and designing all manner of replacement parts. All that training is down the drain.

Up until now I was recommending this software to everyone, but if Autodesk insists on doing updates behind my back and not letting me choose if and when to update, then I can no longer recommend the program. If I had been doing this work against a deadline, I would be totally and completely hosed.

My computer is configured so that NO PROGRAMS are allowed to update automatically in the background, including Windows. Therefore, I am 100% certain that no other program or change caused this problem.

If there is a solution, I will try it, but the support team needs to talk to the marketing department and the design team to make sure this sort of thing doesn't impact your paying customers.

@john_meyerPN8R4 Can you post what is the error you are facing? Also if you can use this article and send in the installation  log files that would be great. (In the error that pops up does its say open log file location or something that you can send in the logs?)

Thank you for the quick reply.

I cannot provide any log files because they were deleted when I used your uninstall tool.

I went to a different computer that has a fresh Windows install, with the identical version of Windows that I'm using on this computer. I was able to begin the Fusion 360 installation on that computer, so that means that the problem is something on my main computer that has somehow become incompatible with Fusion 360 and its installer.

I then ran sfc /scannow, but that reported that all my files are OK.

Since I never let Windows update automatically, I looked at the various updates available. I don't use Internet Explorer (I use Firefox), so I never update that. However, I am aware that some programs (perhaps Fusion 360) use DLLs contained in the IE package, so I updated IE to version 10.

After doing this, and once again rebooting the computer (I had rebooted many times before this in an attempt to fix the problem) I was then able to re-install Fusion 360, without any script error messages.

And then, just now as I was writing this, Fusion 360 finished loading, and it looks like all my work (which is saved online) is available, and the program is working again!!

So, to others who may have this problem (as well as to Fusion 360's support people), updating Internet Explorer via the Windows Update appears to be a fix for at least one class of these problems. I suspect that something your developers did in the past thirty days added code which required something that is only in the latest IE.

@john_meyerPN8R4 Thank you for providing. all the details. I am glad that you are back to being productive with Fusion 360.

I will certainly have our builds team look at the changes in IE and how they impacts the installs. This is a huge piece of information that you have provided us.
