Can't rotate text

Anonymous
Not applicable

Greetings,

Rotating text does not seem to work at all. I thought this had something to do with the complexity of my design, but then I created a new design, added some text, attempted to rotate it, and experienced the same fail.

Here are some steps to reproduce this fail, and if I'm doing something wrong please let me know!

1) File -> New Design

2) Create A Sketch button (any plane)

3) Click the Sketch dropdown, and click "Text"

4) Type in "Fail" and hit enter / click OK.

5) Right click on this Sketch, click "Move/Copy"

6) Either drag the orientation slider, or simply type in your desired orientation (I was hoping for -20deg to match the design I was given).

Click Ok. Nothing happens. you can actually change any axis and attempt to change any of the fields and experience no change at all. I have seen a lot of grumblings about the text sketch tool on the internets; is this something you guys are looking into I hope? Feels a bit frustrating to have to go back to illustrator and have to adjust it there, then pull in an SVG. TBH, I'm just a hobbyist, but at $40/mo this thing should be able to rotate text without having to hunt for a weird workaround..

Hope this helps and that's it simply user error...

To rotate sketch text, you have to use Edit Text:

Yes, Move should rotate sketch text, but today, it does not.  Yes, text is something that is a priority to work on.

@jeff_strater Try rotating the text the other way or try entering -20°. I've meant to bring this up before, why can't you rotate text clockwise?

@Anonymous to rotate to -20° you'll have to enter 340°

Good point.  No good reason that I know of that you cannot rotate by a negative amount.  I'd consider that a bug.  Your workaround is correct, though.

Ahh brilliant, thank you Jeff.

I seem to have inadvertently mentioned a bug, but the root of my problem was that I was doing this

1) Right Click Sketch

2) Move

3) Rotate (this does not work)

When I really needed to

1) Right Click

2) Edit Sketch

3) Right Click again

4) Edit Text

5) Enter 340.

Thanks a bunch Jeff & HughesTooling, appreciate your patience. Mental note of this caveat.

Cheers.

Now with the ability to Emboss, the ability to Rotate Text has become even more important using the "modeling tools"...

As of 8-29-2020 I am unable to rotate Text in Fusion 360 using what one might consider the "natural way" to rotate Text, using the Move command, or Rotate commands...

However, I am able to go into the sketch, right click on the Text Object, "Edit Text"; Within that dialog box, if you enter or modify the text rotation, the Text Rotation works.

So, it seems that F360 does not treat Text objects as standard 2D or 3D objects, but that they are more like a "special object" that is not affected by the modeling tool's Move or Rotate commands.
