Can't group components suddenly

I already searched google and the forum so forgive me, if I bring up a common issue, but I really couldn't find anything.

I was working on a file, building components and grouping them. then I made two sheet metal parts and after that I am unable to group any components or pull them from one group to another.

I can create new components, create sub-components, and everything works in other projects. also if I deactivate the history it seems to work (but that's not really an option). If I drag one component onto another, nothing lights up, there is no error, just nothing happens

I'm unable to move the sheet metal parts or any other parts into another.

are there any settings or restrictions that prevent grouping? or is there any fix?

thanks

Please attach you model and explain the Browser grouping you desire.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

yes, there are limitations in what can be restructured (changing assembly hierarchy).  Especially if you have references from one component to another, Fusion will block an attempt to change the parent component of a component (dragging a component into a new sub-assembly) because doing so would break those references.  If you are careful in how you create your components, and avoid cross-component references, you can change hierarchy easily.

This works in Direct Modeling (non-history-based) because there are no associative cross-part references allowed there.  You can select geometry from another component, but those references are not maintained.

sorry,

could've uploaded the file to begin with. I would like to move the sheet metals into another group / component. I mean I would like to move any component into another one, right now I cant do anything.

I can start again, but it would be really nice to know, what went wrong, so I dont have to repeat that mistake in the future, the last version of the file that doesn't have that mistake is the empty V1

that makes sense. but weird that Fusion doesn't show me an error, it usually does, if there are mistakes like this.

is there any way to find that cross-reference and then re-link it, destroy it, or simple delete the component?

or do I need to start a new file now?

what also weird is that I can't move ANY components. even newly created components into newly created components

Okay, I solved it, but I have no idea how this error works mechanically or logically. So if anybody has tipps about how to find that mistake more reliably I would like to test that on the file that I have. Or If anybody has a explanation of what prevents Fusion to function further.

I made one whole group out of reference parts (with broken link) Instead of deleting the last two features I just rolled back the timeline and continued to change and array them. in the end I noticed, that this two features were in front of the main history marker, and by that, blocking ANY change in group order. I just deleted them and now it works.
I have however no idea why this blocks anything, because all operations on that part should be in the same group.
