Can't edit a sketch while in Edit In Place

I can no longer edit sketch objects in Edit In Place. You can add things like lines, circles, and dimensions. However there is no ability to change dimension values, or move unconstrained sketch objects. This happens regardless of if the part is open at the time of Edit In Place. This also happens regardless of if the sketch items are added during the EIP event or when the part is open standalone. All links are maintained and no projections are present.

Attach your model to your post so the forum users can troubleshoot it for you.  I have not issues editing a sketch while Editing in Place.

No problem, here is the public link https://a360.co/356UAuF . I have replaced the part in my screen cast with another part, and I have the same issue. You can see it as the last item in the model tree.

It's worth note that the only items that I seem to have an issue with are parts that I modeled and then inserted into the assembly. In the example assembly I shared that would be the second, and last items in the model tree. all of the other models are downloaded components from another source and have no design history associated with them. If I try to edit these, or add sketches, then I have no problems.

As I mentioned in the Screencast, I believe you would enjoy and benefit from turning on Capture Design History in your Fusion 360 models.  Back to the subject, you can see I used the edit in place the second component in your browser without issue.  I also did the same with the sketch you used in your Screencast.  In the video I mentioned the only thing I can think of is you do not have all your selection filters turned on.

Your comment about capture design history got me thinking... If you activate it then you can edit sketches just fine. For the life of me I can't think why this would matter at the Assembly level. I could understand if the part had design history turned off. If there as an admin on here I think this needs to be flagged as a bug report.

To your first point, I intentionally deactivate design history at an assembly level. This provides no benefit whatsoever, and only serves to clutter a workflow by capturing positional representations and making part moves and joint order dependant on what order you perform the actions.

Inventor, which is my daily, has a far more simplified, and refined workflow with assemblies.  Treating a Fusion like inventor where assembly files don't have such a strict linear dependence is frankly faster and more intuitive for me.

the issue with direct modeling (currently) is this:  Assembly contexts in an EIP component specify a point in time in the parent assembly when that context was created.  This is to assure that you always get the same context, even if the top assembly progresses on (components get moved, added, removed, etc).  That's why EIP doesn't completely work for direct modeling, even at the top level.  I think that team is working on this, but I can't recall for certain.  So, no, that is not really a bug.
