Can no longer send print from Fusion 360 to Cura

Hello,

Have been sending 3D Print files to Cura for sometime now from Fusion 360.  Was printing parts yesterday.

Had some new files to print today, but when clicking on the Make-3D Print and choosing the file to print, Cura did not open with the part to be printed. Not sure what has changed since yesterday. I did do some research online in the forum and I noticed that some of the users chose the "Custom" section and then point it to the Cura.exe file. However, when I go to Preference section and then click on Design, I noticed that there is no section to choose for 3D Printing.

I am using the education free version. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @wyattGXGNF

I'm able to print to Cura through the "Cura" selection and through the custom setting.

Is this where you are changing it?

The Cura selection is gone on mine and when I try to go thru Custom and point it at the Cura software, It opens a command prompt window and just starts scrolling Gcode. This was not a problem a couple days ago.

I can confirm the issue. Worked flawlessly in December but with the January Update the option for Cura has disappeared from the menu and when using custom and pointing at the cura exe a command window opens with gcode being shown, but no model in cura. Smiley Sad

Hello,

I have found a solution. I downloaded a new version of Cura for Lulzbot Taz 6 from their website. I was able to point the custom file to the New Cura.exe file and I am no able to print directly from the Print 3D section in Fusion 360.

Thanks,

Wyatt

Hey all,

This has been logged as an issue (Internal FUS-44975) and our devs are working to get this fixed. In the meantime, I would try @wyattGXGNF's workaround - let me know if that doesn't work and I can add it to our ticket.

If you are set on using the older Cura 15, as I am, because I don't have time to learn all the nuances of the newer versions, when you click on the 3d Print icon in Fusion uncheck the "Send to 3D Print Utility" box, select the body you want to print and hit OK.................,, It will pull up a save to dialogue box and save it as an STL. From there you can open Cura, click file and Load Model and point it at the STL file.  From there you can do whatever in Cura.

Thanks,
I do not like the New version of Cura and would prefer to use the older one.
I will try and uninstall the newer version and try your suggestion to see if it works.
Appreciate your help.

You can also save to .stl by right clicking the body or the component.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I know how to save to .stl and that way I can print models, it's a workaround but it was much more convenient before. Smiley Happy

I too don't like the new Cura and would like to continue using the old version. It does what I want and is much faster, at least on my PC. I tried using the new Cura and send directly to it from Fusion, that works.

Is there a way to follow the progress of the issue ticket that was opened?

Hi @rogerZRF4V,

Unfortunately we don't have a way to give public access to ticket progress. We'll just have to wait and see if the fix gets put into an update.

It appears I can save the file to an STL but what's with the ratio?
I pick 1:1 ratio before saving and when I open the STL file in Cura the part is way too big.
What am I missing?

I would check your units, make sure they're consistent between Fusion and Cura.

Yeah, first time I tried it I had Fusion on Inches and it went into Cura tiny because Cura is on millimeters. Switched Fusion to mm and redid it and it was perfect.

Ok I changed it back to MM but still ending up with tiny part in Cura.
Please confirm the changes I should be making is in the Preference Section under Manufacture and also under Simulation and Generative Design.
Just keeps coming up tiny in Cura. Should I be looking for a Preference change in Cura? I'm using Cura version 21.08.

You may need to change it in Cura. Make sure it's not cm. That's happened to me before.

Hello,
The older Cura software will not work with Fusion 360 anymore.
I just changed back to the Newer Cura for Lulzbot and will just learn how to use the New Software.
Thanks for all your help.

You can still save the model as an stl file and open with Cura 21.08

I have same problem after firing up Fusion 360 after Xmas break (Windows 10 64 bit)

No Cura option in MAKE, SEND TO PRINTER, dialog box

Cannot select CUSTOM and .exe file as I am using old Cura 14.07 which has no Cura.exe file - it uses pythonw.exe which Fusion will not execute.

Can use workaround of saving as .STL file but not as convenient as having straight send from Fusion to Cura

Has this been fixed yet.  If it has what version is it in?  I running version 2.0.6037 and still having issue.  The work around does not work because the version of Cura 21.04 still uses Python.
