Can I extrude flat image into a completely rounded object

• I've been asked if I can produce a 3D King shaped chess piece into my sub surface laser etching. I've been successful in extruding sketches via inkscape for 3D logos etc. but this would require creating a solid round from a similar 2D inkscape. Svg
• Can it be done? Many thanks

are you just trying to produce a round chess piece from a drawing of the outline?  If so, use Revolve.  Draw a centerline down the middle of the outline.  Select half of the profile, and the centerline as the revolve axis, and a full revolve:
