Bug: Can't extrude multiple faces

I used to select multiple faces to extrude, but now whenever I try more than one it just changes the length of the first extrusion. Is this a bug or has the feature been moved into a separate operation? It still says to select multiple faces and doesn't extrude to connect the two faces so I can't image this is the case though.

I personally can not remember using the Extrude command on two or more faces in one operation.  If this were possible, the Extrude options would not make any sense.  You may be thinking of the Offset Face command.

You can only Extrude multiple coplanar faces (or profiles).  What you are seeing if you click on another face is what we call "face snapping", which is a way to set the extrude distance so that it lines up with a parallel face.  It is kind of a holdover from Direct Modeling (and is very useful there, where you don't have "To Object" to create an associative relationship to another face).
