British time & date format in the data panel

The data panel shows the date in USA format which is completely alien to the most (the rest) of the world and I would like to display it in day/month/year format.  I've searched the forum and apparently it's set by the localisation setting in preferences however the only setting for English is 'English/English' but this displays the USA format so obviously it's really a setting for 'English/USA' and there is no way to get the format used by all other English speaking countries (England etc) which all use the day/month/year format.  can we either have a 'date format setting' or include a real 'English/English' (or really English/non-USA) setting as well as the 'English/USA' setting that the current 'English/English' really is.  The reason I find this a problem is that it makes checking the last save date against a backup file a problem and as the only way to keep a local copy is to manually open and save files it's not not that easy and prone to errors.
