Bodies missing from design

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I'm having issues with Fusion 360. I moved some bodies into a folder but now the folder is empty. It seems like the bodies are there because turning the visibility of the folder on and off causes the bodies to disappear. When I select a body on the model the correct folder is underlined. Yet the folder is empty. See the screencast below:

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting in the forum! It seems like the screencast was included properly. Could you try inserting the screencast again? Also, would you be able to share a public link to the design with me? I'd like to take a closer look at the issue.

Hey Masanobu,

I had the screencast set to "access by link only". I changed that to public access, I think it should work now.

Here's a link to the design: https://a360.co/2GRYzxS

That said, I did fix the issue. I was working on something else and I went into the sketch at the very beginning of the timeline. I made some changes then stopped the sketch. When I came back into the model all the bodies were there. No idea why, but the error is fixed.

Still having this exact same problem. Some components are missing randomly

Of course you do!

That's why the timeline is called a timeline. When you edit a sketch you travel back in time to the point where that sketch was created. So stuff that is created later in the timeline is not visible as it does not exist yet.

Hey Peter,

Thanks for the reply. Take a look at the screencast below. I'm definitely at the end of the timeline. Multiple bodies *should* be in the Bodies folder, but it's empty when I look at it.

(The forum is being weird, and I double posted the screencast. Gonna leave it.)

Screencast will be displayed here after you click Post.

You have a top level bodies folder that fills up with bodies if you forget tho activate the component where you want the body to be.

I post a reference to Fusion 360's R.U.L.E #1 for good measure 😉

Referencing the screencast above, the active component is "Case". When I click the visibility lightbulb for the components "Case" the entire case disappears, as it should. When I highlight a body in the workspace the component "Case" is underlined in the browser. All indications say the there should be bodies in the Case component. But when I open the Bodies folder within the Case component there are no bodies in the folder.

Additionally, I looked at the other Bodies folders in the browser. The missing bodies weren't there. Check out the screencast, it shows the issues I outlined above.

Rule 1 is really helpful. I suspect this is the result of making bodies in one component then moving them to another. I was trying to organize my model when the issue appeared.

Can you share your design ?

I looked at the screencast again and you are correct that the component is active. But not only is it active, it does have a "Bodies" folder, which is only present if there are bodies in the component. Thus is it rather odd to have a "Bodies" folder without bodies in it.

I ran into the same issue. I recovered the bodies in the browser successfully by selecting the Bodies entry and using the "Create Components from Bodies" option in the context menu.

This is definitely a bug, and it was triggered by moving bodies between components and groups.

Then post the model in .f3d format.

Afraid I can't: I'm preparing the design for patent, and publicly disclosing the design could void my patent rights. I just wanted to post here to make sure you guys are aware of the bug and that it's still happening-- It's actually happened to me twice now.  I worked around the issue by modifying a previous version of the design. Thanks

This has also happened to me, I also moved these bodies between components and groups and they are no longer showing up in the filetree. The folder they should be in does get highlighted when one of the bodies is selected, but it doesn't open. I'm just screwing around for a study project though, so I can share the file. I think I screwed up the project by deleting a parent part at some point, but the issue was present before I did that.

The problem is the component 'Connectorplaat', the flat hexagonal plate inside component 'motor'. It has an empty Bodies folder, but it does obviously contain a couple of bodies that highlight 'Connectorplaat' when selected and vice-versa.

Oops, I was looking at the wrong file - back in a minute...

Edit: You have the Visibility for nearly 300 bodies turned off - is that the issue?

No, that's because I was working on an attachment mechanism and the rest of the bike blocked my vision too much, I did that in purpose.

The issue (and it's not a big issue for me, I'm already done with this project) is that the component 'Connectorplaat' (the flat black hexagon) contains 6 bodies (plate itself and 5 copper pins), but they are not showing up in the file tree. This seems to be a bug that previous posters on this thread experienced, but they were unable to supply a file containing the bug.

I don't really need a solution for this specific project, I just meant to add an example file to this issue. I found this thread because I was confused at the bodies not showing in the filetree, googled the symptoms and ended up here.
