Bending a profile to follow a curved surface

I have been trying to bend the profile shown in ScreenCast below but have not succeeded.

Any ideas?

Which profile?

You have a sketch with a bounding box and numerous radially spaced rectangles.

Sketch patterns are not recommended.

Bend the plate with holes would be Sheetmetal built in place, unfold, cut the holes and refold.

The new emboss command is sooo new you might find the Surface body needs thickness for that to work.

Thanks Yes I have tried to use the same process as printing text on a cylinder. 

It seems to work but when the radial squares are extruded they are tapered towards the center of the circle when the cylinder is refolded, which was not my intention.
