Dear all,

I wonder why I could not choose a normal .jpg file e.g. as a background / environment picture inside the rendering modul as I am used from other rendering programms. Did I overlooked this option somewhere?

Thank you for you help.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! Environments in Fusion 360 are EXR and HDR files, which is why you cannot use JPEG files.

This thread gives some good links to HDR libraries - hopefully it will help you find some new environments to work with. You can add a custom environment as described in this thread.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.

You can use a .jpg as a backplate. That technique is described in this thread.

Well @paul.clauss , is there any reason for that except "annoying" the users? Of course a real HDR image is better for lighting,  but why not make it possible for people to use their own JPG 360 images as background, e.g. created with Google street map app? You can do that in Cinema 4D (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y97qeeIv2dQ) - so why no allow it in Fusion also, which is not exactly a very useful high end rendering solution anyhow (still no real way to make good  animated renderings, e.g.)? By adding a few gamma / brighness / contrast adjustments, the results would be just fine or even great.
