Autosave is not working

As title states, autosave is not functioning properly after a crash, all progress is lost. Previously after a crash maybe the last one or two minutes of work prior to the crash were lost, now everything is lost since the last hard save.

I checked the preferences, automatic backup interval is set at 5 minutes and the 'automatic version on close' option is enabled.

Very frustrating.

Knowing this, I have made it a habit to automatically save myself (pun intended) every few minutes.  This habit has saved me many times over the last 35 years.

Hi,

Sorry to hear that recovery save may not be working as expected. Hopefully some of this will help.

I looked for your crash reports, but there aren't that many. The latest one was from November, 2022. Please send all of them because it helps us see problems, like the one you are describing, more clearly.

Some definitions:

Recovery save is not autosave. It doesn't work like google docs or similar methods where tiny bits of information are saved as you work. This is why there is a time limit. Recovery save writes a full copy of the design to the local hard drive for access after a crash. Because of this there are limitations.

Limitations:

Recovery save will not run if a command is running. This is because Fusion cannot initiate the recovery save while a command is running. Because of this, you might work for 5 or more minutes and not get a recovery save, because Fusion had no opportunity to do so.

Automatic version on close:

This is a setting that is basically "save on close" for a design file. It has nothing to do with recovery save. It runs when a design is closed by the user. A crash, by definition, is not a design-close. When something goes wrong, and the software cannot continue to function, it crashes, and cannot fire the "automatic version on close" code.

Sorry for not having more specific answers for your exact situation. If you crash again, and feel that there were plenty of intervals where Fusion could write a recovery file, let me know. There might be clues we can find in the crash report.
