Automatically modify arrayed objects based on changes to a reference object?

Hi all, 

I'm stuck on how to make identical changes to all arrayed objects by modifying a single reference object. 

 

So, I created a reference object as follows:

Then, I applied rectangular array to the reference object:

arrayed.png

 

Then, I applied an extrude cut to the reference object:

front view

side view (ensuring it extruded all the way to the ground)

From here, I wanted to make the extrude cut to automatically apply to every arrayed object whenever I made changes to the reference. However, I'm not sure how to achieve this. I tried using 'Create Components from Bodies' and apply 'Combine' to all the objects and the plate to group everything into one component. I thought this would work as intended, but it didn't. Ultimately, I ended up creating circles and extruding them one by one.

Does anyone have any suggestion or know a better way to do this?

That’s what the Timeline is for.  If you have a Timeline, 

move the timeline marker to before the pattern, do the mods, send timeline marker to after the pattern, the pattern will update.


No timeline, you got it - the right way.
