I am having the following issues with autodesk fusion 360 on my HP laptop. I am using the student edition.

1. Sometimes, I am not able to open my Autodesk, when I open it freezes and says not responding.

2. When I try to do something for example, moving components, inserting components, it freezes and says not responding.

I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, still I am seeing the same issues.

I am not able to use Autodesk Fusion 360 at all, please help.

here is my laptop details-

Model: HP Pavilion Laptop 15z-cw100

Processor: AMD Ryzen 53500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.10 GHz

Hi,

First we need to check one critical bug that needs fixing. Are you using a second monitor, and is this where Fusion is launched, does it open on a second monitor?

Second, it looks like you have robotics frame parts on the screen. These can be extremely heavy for Fusion in commands like Move. Can you describe the workflow in the image you provided? I can't see any running commands, but it looks like you've selected everything on screen.

Here are some performance tips:

1. Turn off graphics effects. Go to Help > Support and Diagnostics > Graphics Diagnostic. Turn off the effects all at once with the control there.

2. If you are using imported parts that have lots of detail, simplify them. Remove 3D logos, and remove internal components for items you are not going to manufacture.

I've seen FIRST robotics parts kits for students that have thousands of extra edges, hundreds of tiny components the students don't care about, etc. These can be extremely detailed and gives the student their first unintended lesson in CAD - don't use detail that you do not need.

Glad to help, please let me know what you are doing in that image and if you can, please share a link to the design.

Thank you for your quick response.

  1. I am not using second monitor.  I am launching Autodesk Fusion 360 only on my HP laptop.
  2. Yes, this is for robotics. Here is my workflow - I created a chassis with wheels and other parts. When  I selected chassis everything got disabled and I got the message not responding. I closed the autodesk, launched again , I tried to remove the extra parts from the screen but it wasn’t functioning and whole screen got disabled.
  3. I followed your steps. I turned off graphics effects by going through Help > Support and Diagnostics > Graphics Diagnostic.
  4. Now I am able to remove extra parts from the screen and I am able to use robotics parts to design.
  5. Sometimes my screen still hangs for 10 seconds while I am assembling my parts or while doing something on the screen. After that it still shows message not responding but then it starts working again.

Thank you very much for your help and resolving my issues.

Hi,

Thanks for the response and details. I think at this point that your computer is being overloaded with a very heavy model. Every part, every edge, every face, it is tracked by Fusion when you move things.

Here is some advice:

If possible update your graphics drivers. Go to the AMD site to check for new ones.

Do not use move. If a part must be moved, it should only be "moved into place" using Joint commands, meaning you "moved it" to assemble it to the assembly using a Joint.

If you must move things, select the component in the model browser, then start the Move command. Do not window/box select items to move by drawing a box around them to select them.

Be patient. "Not responding" is a message from Windows. Fusion is actually working hard in the background to perform the commands you are asking of it. Windows detects this as "not responding" but if you wait Fusion will finish computing and will be responsive again. This is expected, it has to do with how Fusion works, and is caused by extensive amounts of geometry in your model that you are moving around.

Removing 3D logos how-to video demonstration.

Removing 3D screw threads how-to video demonstration.

Looking again at the image you posted in the original post: these robotics models are extremely detailed, each hole each bump, etc. all have edges and faces. These are very heavy models for "geometry" due to the extra information they carry.

Please let me know if I can help more.
