Assign specific density to a part

Hello,

I am having my students design and 3D print parts that must meet certain mass constraints. I know I can choose different materials but is there a way to assign a specific density? For example, if our PLA material has a density of .2 grams per cm cubed how can I determine the weigh of the part before I print it?

Many thanks!

You can create an materials you desire in Fusion 360.  This is done using the Material Browser, which you can find under Modify in the Design environment.  Once it is created, you can specify the Density under the Physical tab, Mechanical Properties.  You will need to assign other properties if the material will be used for other Fusion 360 processes.

IMHO you cannot calculate the weight in Fusion 360. You might get a rough estimation for designs that are printed in vase mode (one shell, no infill) or in opposite with 100% infill, but you can't do this for standard printing. Or are you planing to design infill structure in Fusion 360, too?

Thanks for the info. I know the amount of infill will be a variable that will lead to a rough estimate of mass which is close enough for what my 8th graders are doing.
