Appearance dissapears when going from sculpt/form to model/design

Hi,

So i am trying to add an appearance to the rim and inside of a wheel in order to differentiate it from the tyre. In the model space this wasnt working, I was only able to apply the appearance to the whole body, so i tried splitting the face, this worked however it also applied the appearance to the outside of the wheel for some reason??

After this I went back into sculpt/form (where i could select the desired faces) and applied the appearance to the faces, happy with the result i went back into model to find it was gone.

I dont see why Fusion would allow you to use the appearance feature in the sculpt mode if you couldnt retain it afterwards? Is this a bug?

I have attached two photos, one showing the wheel in the form mode with the desired appearance applied to the faces i wanted, the other showing how you can only select the entire body in 'design' mode.

Any help appreciated.helpz.pngplz helpz.png

The simplest answer is that the body is transformed into solid/patch bodies and the appearances are subsequently lost. I do not know the intent of doing it this way or the reasoning behind why it allows you to apply them.

Now this is where it gets a bit tricky. They DO remain on when the body is uniformly transformed OR the appearances are set at a per body/component level rather than face level. Which might be what you are facing.

Since i don't have your model i cannot be 100% sure of where the breaks are and should be to prove out what i know. But i do know that the best thing to do if applying them in a form - apply them per body and make your body splits where the material changes(in all reality this is how most things that are not multi-color or plastics/synthetics would be)

Cheers for the reply Ryan,

I see what you're saying it just means I'll have to do a few more steps to differentiate the faces into bodies. This is what I tried originally in the 'surface' area however it left me with a strange outcome, it applied the appearance to both the outside of the wheel as well as the intended inside. I did this by extruding a circle into the wheel, trimming and splitting the body. How would you go about achieving a similar thing in the 'form' area?

Do you think submitting this as an idea would be worthwhile? - the ability to carry appearances over from the 'form' workspace to the 'design' workspace.

Ok, maybe the appearance on the outer of the wheel was the bug........ just started the programme this morning, tried the same thing and it works! Cheers for your help, I think Fusion just needed to sleep on it 😂success.png

I have no idea why that would be but its great to know its working!

I do want to mention they do carry over - with a few stipulations:

  • single form body that is converted to a single patch/solid
  • Appearance applied at the body/component and NOT face level

The latter is what i've seen most often.

I'm still having this issue, however, I don't know how to create a body from the individual face sets that have individual appearances.
