Animation: edit component rotate action - pivot and angles incorrect

I've added a rotation to open then shut a door. I had to set the pivot point to the hinge centerline as it defaulted to the other end of the door. The animation works fine (e.g. +/-120 degrees). But if I right click the rotate action on the timeline and select Edit Action, the pivot point reverts to the original position and the angles read zero. Have I missed something?

Hi @geoff.ferguson4K86R

I think from what I understand of your description, this is intended behavior. Did you do a capture position? That is an event that lives in the timeline.  You can go back, pivot, and capture position at the point you need it.

Does that answer your question?

Feel free to share the model or create a screencast if I misunderstood.

Cheers!

Karina

Hi Karina,

Thanks for your response. I am familiar with that approach in the Model Workspace, but in the Animation Workspace I do not see a 'capture position' action that I can add to the animation timeline. 'Move' actions behave as expected - I add a 'Move Action' using 'Transform Components' then I can go back and Edit Action and I see the XYZ distance values that I originally entered (I also see the Rotate Head move to the *end* of the action). 'Rotate Actions' can be added using 'Transform Components', but if I then go back and Edit Action then the XYZ angle values all read zero. (I also noticed that the Play Head moves to the *start* of the action - and maybe this is part of the problem.)

This is even more clearly demonstrated if you add translations *and* rotations in a 'Transform Components' dialog, then it creates 'Move' and 'Rotate' actions at the same time, but editing each of them exhibits the differing behaviour described above.

Cheers, Geoff

Hi @geoff.ferguson4K86R

Thanks for elaborating - I understand the behavior now. The issue is that the 'rotate' action in the animation workspace does not remember any values entered or the pivot point selected when you edit the action.

I don't see this logged anywhere, so I've created an internal ticket (FUS-49030) so development can have a look.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Cheers,

Karina

Hello, I have just hit this problem again on a different design, the bug appears to still be there in the latest version - did anyone look at fixing it? Many thanks.
