All text shows only as rectangles

Mac OS 10.15

Fusion 360 2.0.5677

Problem:

No matter what font I try, if I open a sketch, select the Text function and enter text into the dialog box that comes up the only thing I see in the Fusion 360 screen is a group of rectangles, one for every letter I have typed into the dialog box.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks

Hi,

Can you check and see if the font Arial works?

Also, do the fonts show up in drawings?

Generally, this issue is seen when a "symbolic" font is used. This is a flag that is set on the font file. These kinds of fonts do not perform well in solid modeling (very crashy) and are blocked. It would be a new problem to see that 100% of system fonts are flagged as symbolic somehow. If the font is available for drawings but not solid modeling, that would be my first suspicion - that it's a symbolic font. Please try Arial and let me know what happens.

Thanks,

1. Font in the file I reported was Ariel (see screen shot), However I have started over with a new file with the same results.
2. I can’t get the Drawing module to open. It crashes every time I try to open it. I have tried 3 different ways to open the Drawing Workspace
a. Click on the “Change Workspace” button at the top left & select new drawing from model
b. Click on File -> New Drawing -> New Drawing from Design
c. Click on File -> New Drawing -> New Drawing from Template
3. This problem has occurred both with the file below and with a new file created from scratch:
a. New File
b. New Sketch
c. Rectangle (100mm x 100mm)
d. Pressed “q” key and extruded 3mm
e. Created new sketch on the surface of the model created above
f. entered text using the text tool
Produces rectangles as shown in the attached screen shot.
g. Saved file
h. Try to open the Drawing Workspace as above, program crashes every time.
4. Closed & re-opened Fusion 360. Same sequence of commands & events.
5. Other programs open at the time:
a. Finder
b. Mail
c. Safari
d. Text Expander
e. TotalAV
6. Operating system:
Mac OS 10.15 (19A487m)

Hi,

Unfortunately your crashes indicate you are seeing an issue we have tracked to MacOS 10.15 (Catalina). We hope to have that issue fixed asap, but the solution is not fully tested yet. We are working on it. I asked if the crash issue might also cause the text display issue.

The thing I was trying to ask you to test is not whether model text shows up in drawings, but rather can you create text objects in a drawing, like dimensions and notes.

Thanks,

I have the same problem.

Arial fonts are enabled.

But text not working. Text in sketch rendered as rectangles, text on dimensions are hidden, and drawings crashing.

I don't see any CER reports from you. Do you get this dialog when you crash? If you see this, always send it in. It helps figure out problems like this.

And another thing you can check is if your fonts are installed so that Fusion can use them. There is a great response from another user on this thread, the last post has a lot of detail you might find useful.

I don’t remember doing anything special, but am no longer having the problem. I did get a post from Autodesk telling me this was a known issue, I think an update fixed it. My current version is 2.0.7421.

Seems to me there may also have been an interaction between a non-Safari browser (Chrome or Firefox) as well. Since Chrome is no longer on m. machine, that may have been the culprit.

Can’t find the emails related to this at the moment, sorry I can’t be of more help.

This MAY help. I really don’t remember how I fixed my problem, but it is no longer an issue.

Hi, I didn't have that problem until I recently updated my mac to Catalina 10.15.5,

I solve the problem by scrolling up into the font options until I found some apple fonts, some do not work but there is one named apple symbols that allow you to extrude

Hello,

This is also happening to me - only one font appears as entered "GRENADIER NF"  this is an Arte Deco  style font.

However is cannot be extruded or exploded, therefore useless like the other standard fonts.

Looks like an OS Catalina 10.15.5 issue.

Worse still I tried editing some pre OS Catalina 10.15.5 jobs and manage to 'kill' them as well.

Looking forward to a solution...

Thanks,

Edward

Hi,

did you try TTF?

grenadier.png

If it doesn´t work:

1. Create your text in Inkscape and save it as SVG (graphic, not text)

2. Insert into Fusion
