All of a sudden issues opening and exporting files

Myself and my co-worker have been using Fusion360 for the last year or two.

We would open Solidworks files and export them to step or stl. We would also open step and export to stl.

Now all of a sudden last month (April 2021) on both our computers when we open a Solidworks 2021 file we get an error-

1 error(s)

Opening of local files is not supported! File path: C:/Users/SLPC/AppData/Local/Temp_”our file name”.135b6b47-cfac-486c-9dad-005d8e9564d3.f3d

but the part opens and we can see if on our screens.

When we try and Export as a step or stl we get another error-

Translator Failed to export the asset as file: “our server drive:/file name.step”

and

STL Translator failed to export data

It will output the file but but its always 1k.

Any input on how to fix this? At the moment Fusion360 is completely useless to us.

Hi,

I'd be happy to look at the log files. Please try both workflows: Open solidworks, and export STL, be sure that you get the same error messages, and then capture your logs for me using Help > Support and Diagnostics > Diagnostic log files.

After that, to work with Solidworks data, could you try uploading the Solidworks file to translate it rather than opening?

And when you want to make STL, instead of exporting it right click on the body node in the browser, and then use Save As STL.

Do either of these workarounds help you?

Hi-

I tried opening the solidworks file and exporting as STL like I always do
and did get the same error.

I then tried the uploading solidworks file like you said and was able to
output a usable STL.

Attached is the log file.

Thank you for any help

Thanks. The issue is known and they are working on a fix. For now keep using the Upload workflow.
