All my files are corrupt on Mac M1 Max

I am pulling my hair out over Fusion 360 right now. when I first downloaded it last year it worked perfectly. Then in October, there was an update that made it constantly beach ball and crash. It has become so sluggish and hard to use. Almost every click I make, it beach balls, then takes 30sec-3mins before it starts working again. So a task that should take me 5 minutes can take an hour to complete.

now recently an update happened that has basically corrupted every single project I have including new projects I make. Every time I save a project and close it, when I reopen it, it says it's corrupt. I can't get any of my projects to work and I have some that are critical and I can not lose them. I don't know what to do. How do I fix my corrupt files and why is this happening? I'm afraid to open any files that aren't corrupt because as soon as I save them, they become corrupt. and even when I try to open older versions, most of those are corrupt until I go several version back and have no idea what changes I've lost at that point.

I'm running an M1 Max MacBook Pro on Sonoma 14.3 with Fusion 2.0.18961 arm64.

@camman475 Would it be possible to invite me to your hub and also collect the logs from your machine? You are on the latest build of Fusion.

1. Can you invite me raj.kumar.ilanchelian@autodesk.com to your hub?
2. Do you work on multiple machines?
3. When an error occurs , can you go into - Help - Support and Diagnostics- Service utility - gather system info- this will generate two zip files. We will need the Fusiondiagnosticslogs.zip

@lance.carocci this sounds somewhat similar (the lag and beachball) to another thread that might only be 2 weeks old.

Both revolve around new apple silicon. Might be worth checking out.

@RajkumarIlanchelian , here is another thread that is somewhat similar in reported symptoms on Apple silicon.

Hi Rajkumar,

1. Could you tell me exactly how to add you to my hub? I'm not sure what that is.

2. I do not work on multiple machines. Only the M1 Max MacBookPro

3. here is a link where you can download the Fusion Diagnostic Logs I just pulled..

@camman475 A few files open fine but for the ones that do not open, do you get this message as well? Screenshot 2024-05-10 at 5.53.47 PM.png

@camman475 I think those are from the fasteners and since I don't have them they are showing up. So it should not matter.

I do not get this error. I have never seen that before. there are some projects that still open, but most of my big projects don't. they all just say they're corrupt. I keep trying to make external backups so I can at least freeze them in time to some point. but now my fusion is filled with copies of the same files which are all corrupt now

@camman475 I can reproduce this error on one of your files. I am going to ask couple of others from my engineering team also to reach out to this post shortly. Likely they will need access to the project too.

In the project I see many files that are saved even in April that says recovery v4 , recovery v5, BKUP etc. Are all these need files? Would it be possible for you to tell me one file that is the main file for you? So that I wont focus on the other backup files ?

@camman475 Cna I get confirmation on the below two?

1. I see that the file name Fa**** Cu**** was saved yesterday and it opened fine. So it is not that every save is causing a problem - Correct?

2. Om**** Mo**** Pi is the one that you are trying to open? (not the ones with extensions BKUP, recovery etc) - Is that correct?

These are all files I saved trying to make sure I had a working copy, but because they all became corrupt, I don't know which one I can or can not use. One file that would be worth focusing on is "DUO PI TEST NO FEET RECOVERY V6" or "Omnicon Mono PI V.3 BKUP". I don't want to remove any of those files until I get them working and can look throug them and figure out which one makes sense to work from.

The Fan Cutter file you mentioned is an old file that I just opened to see if it would open. not 100% of my files are corrupting, but it seems like almost all of the files I actively work on are corrupting.

2. I have been trying to open every version of the mono pi files including the BKUP's. I keep jumping through different versions trying to find one that will work

@camman475 It looks like some where between April 17 - April 22 is where something happened.

The Omnicon Mono Pi - Version 7 is the last I could open successfully.

I am still waiting for one of our engineering team to look into this as well.

@camman475 Looks like you got one version to work? I see you made a new file?

Rather than making it asa new file, you may want to look into saving it as a new version in your master file so that all the versions are maintained.

I got a file open that is many versions old. I'm trying to save f3d's of my critical projects so I at least have some safety net. but your suggestion of saving a version is my problem. every time I save a new version it gets corrupt. I have no confidence that saving any project will ever work because it almost never does

@camman475 What kind of changes do you usually do to that file? All the children design in that parent design opens nicely. So something that we do in the parent assembly is corrupting the file.

On Monday we should have one of our team engineers also engage to figure out what is happening here and how to address this for good.

I am having the same issue. Extremely frustrating. I have uninstalled, reinstalled Fusion; completely wiped and reloaded my M1 MacBook Pro, same issue. Sometimes I can make changes, which are successful, but then it fails to save. I receive a lot of failures to open because of corrupt files. And yes, on top of that, recent updates have made Fusion so incredibly slow and painful to use.

I have lost days and days to these issues, along with work that cannot be reclaimed. This is the only application on my Mac performing this poorly. Running the latest version of Fusion (Fusion 2.0.19966 arm64 [Native]), along with macOS 14.6.1.
